The usage of the following lighting program brings about the following advantages: › The chicks will rest and/or sleep at the same time. This means that the behaviour of the chicks will be synchronized. › Weak chicks will be stimulated by stronger ones to move as well as to eat and drink. › The behaviour of the flock is more uniform and the judgement of the birds is made easier. › Mortality will decrease. To which extent lighting hours are reduced during the growing period and the time when stimulation begins by increasing the lighting hours are means by which perfor- mance can be adjusted to specific farm re- quirements. The following Standard Lighting Programme is designed as an example for a quick start into production. The light intensity measured in watt/m², lumen, foot candle or lux depends on the used light source. Giving advices concerning this measurement would rather irritate than help layer farmers. Therefore the light intensity is just given in lux unit in the following table.
