When it comes to data analysis, the two\r\nsoftware programs \u201eIdent Converter\u201c and \u201eChicken Checker\u201c are a valuable\r\nassistance.<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\n<br><br><br>\r\n\r\nAt the research station Thalhausen of the\r\nTechnical University of Munich, the nesting\r\nbehaviour of 600 LOHMANN TIERZUCHT\r\nlayers is recorded everyday. For this reason,\r\neach layer is tagged with a transponder\r\nat the leg. Ten times per second, a reader checks the individual nests which are\r\nequipped with an integrated antenna.  <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\nWhen a layer occupies a nest, the transponder number of this specific layer would\r\nbe logged. If at the time of inquiry the\r\nnest is empty, a \u201ezero\u201c is recorded. Everyday at the research station Thalhausen,\r\nhuge data sets with sizes of up to 350 MB\r\nare generated for the 72 nests in this way.\r\nThe data is stored on mainframes and has\r\nto be compressed for further analysis of\r\nthe nesting behaviour for each single layer.\r\nThese tasks are carried out with the aid\r\nof two especially developed software\r\nprograms. <br><br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Controlling logical sequences <\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\nIn the first step, the data is processed with\r\nthe software \u201eIdent Converter\u201c (IDC). It\r\ncontrols the raw data regarding logical\r\nsequences in order to correct possible\r\nmistakes. For example, it checks whether\r\ndifferent transponder numbers have been\r\nlogged in a very short period of time in the\r\nsame nest. This is of major importance, as it\r\nis necessary to make sure that only one single layer occupies the nest at a particular\r\ntime. It sometimes occurs that two layers\r\noccupy one nest at the same time. The IDC\r\nrecognizes these cases and blocks the data\r\nfor further evaluation in order to exclude\r\nassignment mistakes between the laid egg\r\nand the layer. Such eggs cannot be considered for testing the egg quality. <br><br><br>\r\n\r\n<strong>Compressed data set after processing with\r\n\u201eIDC\u201c and \u201eChicken Checker\u201c<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lohmann-breeders.com\/media\/2020\/08\/j24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"589\" class=\"imgcenter\" \/>\r\n\r\n<br><br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Compressing raw data sets<\/strong><br><br>\r\nIn the next step, the program \u201cChicken\r\nChecker\u201d compresses all data exported by\r\nthe IDC (ten per second per nest). As a result,\r\na data file is obtained which only consists of\r\nnest data relevant for analysis, such as the \r\nstarting and ending time of a nest visit, or the\r\nexact time of egg oviposition. While compressing data of one single nest visit, which\r\nhas been recorded several times per second,\r\nthe \u201cChicken Checker\u201d monitors the length\r\nof time in which a single specific transponder number has been continuously recorded\/captured.  <br><br>\r\n\r\nFurthermore, with the \u201cChicken Checker\u201d,\r\nadditional limits, or rather minimum or\r\nmaximum values are defined, which in turn\r\nhave to be entered as flexible parameters\r\nfor the analysis and control of the data set.\r\nThus, the daily data set of about 350 MB\r\nis reduced by a thousand times.
