Turkish poultry industry meets in Antalya <\/h2>


\r\n\r\nLate April 2012 LOHMANN TIERZUCHT and HasTavuk, Lohmann\u2019s distributor of Lohmann Brown and LSL commercial\r\nlayers in Turkey, organized the fourth edition of the bi-annual seminar for the Turkish table egg sector.<\/strong><\/em>


\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis year HasTavuk celebrated its 40th anniversary in combination with the event.\r\nThe meeting was held in the prestigious\r\nInternational Comfort Green Palace Hotel\r\nin Antalya. Representatives of all branches\r\nof the table egg business, broiler industry\r\nand numerous officials attended the meetings. More than 550 participants, accounting for more than 80 % of the domestic\r\ntable egg producers, attended this highly\r\nsuccessful event.

\r\n\r\nSince the first seminar in Bursa in 2007 over\r\nthe years, the meeting has become a highlight for exchange of ideas and updating\r\nknowledge for the Turkish table egg industry.

\r\n\r\n\r\nDuring the first day Matthias Voss, Robert\r\nPottgueter and Ron Eek updated the audience on essentials of successful pullet\r\nrearing. M\u00fcjdat Sezer, senior board member of HasTavuk explained the audience\r\nthe merits of LOHMANN TIERZUCHT<\/strong> and\r\ntheir breeds in combination with the outstanding organization of HasTavuk. In the\r\nafternoon session Julian Madeley, Director\r\nGeneral of the International Egg Commission, gave an introduction on the global\r\negg market. The day was completed by Sahin Aydemir, General Manager of HasTavuk,\r\nwho emphasized the importance of creation of new markets for the Turkish egg industry, which has seen substantial growth\r\nin production capacity during recent years.

\r\n\r\nThe second day of the seminar a famous\r\nTurkish speaker Ahmet Serif Izg\u00f6ren gave\r\nan energetic presentation about entrepreneurship and personal development, emphasizing on future generation taking over\r\nthe businesses

\r\n\r\nAfter lively discussions the event was completed with an excellent gala dinner with\r\nlife music and interesting Turkish folklore.\r\nDuring the party the current management\r\nand HasTavuk\u2019s founders were honoured\r\nfor their outstanding performance in interest of the Turkish poultry sector, by Mr. Dirk\r\nWesjohann, board member of EW-Group\r\nand Prof. Dr. Rudolf Preisinger, Managing\r\nDirector of LOHMANN TIERZUCHT GmbH<\/strong>.

\r\n\r\n\r\nSince several years Turkey is a top 10 global\r\negg producer; egg production is higher\r\nthan domestic consumption (Table 1).\r\nMany efforts by the poultry production\r\nboard focus on establishment of new markets and expanding existing export activities. In order to improve domestic consumption increased consumer awareness,\r\nadvertisement campaigns and branding of\r\neggs are promoted.

\r\n\r\n\r\nIn recent years the table egg production\r\nsector became more professional and upgraded their quality and capacity. Most\r\nleading egg producers have quality standards and state-of-the-art technology in line\r\nwith with international standards.

\r\n\r\nThe Turkish consumer prefers medium\r\nto large sized eggs and therefore LOHMANN LSL is preferred by producers as their\r\nearly egg weight shows a good increase;\r\nhardly any undersized eggs observed. The\r\nLSL shows excellent peak performances\r\nand good laying persistency (Table 2). The\r\noutstanding shell quality of both LSL and\r\nLOHMANN BROWN make them an unbeatable team in the Turkish market.

\r\n\r\nTurkey Mr. M\u00fcjdat Sezer showed that an\r\noperation with 100,000 layers can generate more than 0.5 Million Turkish Lira (TL)\r\nmore profit by choosing LOHMANN LSL in\r\ntheir farm. Due to the better egg size LSL\r\neggs are rated 0.01 TL more than smaller\r\neggs of other breeds. LSL produces 12\r\neggs more per hen housed compared to\r\nnumber 2 breed in Turkey\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nHasTavuk was founded in 1972 in the western city of Bursa, by Mr. Ismail Hakki Yilmaz,\r\nwho is still active as a board member and\r\nMr. Sedat Sirri Sezer, whose sons Mujdat\r\nand Nejat are managing the company together with their father. The company is\r\ninvolved in both layer- and broiler breeder\r\nbusiness. Since almost 25 years a close\r\ncooperation with LOHMANN TIERZUCHT<\/strong>\r\nhas been established. 3 Times HasTavuk\r\nhad been awarded \u2018The World Excellence\u2019\r\ntitle for business management. They have\r\nestablished themselves over the years as\r\nthe industry leader for layer chick supply\r\n(more than 50 % of domestic market) and\r\nexpanded the activities to layer pullet business (up to 5 Mio layer pullets annually),\r\nhatching egg production and about 20 %\r\nis exported to surrounding countries.

\r\n\r\n\r\nAt present the individual production facilities are spread over more than 30 separate\r\nlocations. The main centers are located\r\nin Bursa (west-Turkey) and near Sivrihisar\r\n(central Anatolia), where in total they have\r\n25 breeder farms, 2 hatcheries, 2 feed mills\r\nand 5 layer pullet sites.
