For this\r\nreason, it is important to examine the genetic resources by means of the most advanced methods and to characterize\r\nthem with regard to the provision of high quality food, feed and renewable energy sources. In this context, the German\r\nFederal Ministry of Education and Research supports the foundation of an interdisciplinary centre for genome-based\r\nbreeding research in farmed animals and crop plants.<\/strong><\/em> <br><br><br>\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lohmann-breeders.com\/media\/2020\/08\/j46.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"279\" class=\"imgcenter\" \/><br>\r\n<em><strong>Visit of a breeding farm in Cuxhaven<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\n<br><br>\r\n\r\nThe Federal Ministry invests 12.7 million\r\nEuros in the project \u201cSYNBREED &#8211; Innovation cluster synergistic plant and animal\r\nbreeding\u201d in which LOHMANN TIERZUCHT\r\nis involved as an industrial cooperation\r\npartner.<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote>Together with colleagues of the company\r\nKWS SAAT AG, scientists of the following\r\nuniversities and institutes are working in\r\nthis interdisciplinary project: Technical University Munich, Helmholtz Centre Munich,\r\nBavarian Agricultural Research Institute,\r\nGeorg August University G\u00f6ttingen, University of Hohenheim, Christian Albrechts\r\nUniversity in Kiel as well as Friedrich Loeffler Institute in Mariensee. The research\r\ntasks focus on the functional analysis of\r\nnatural biodiversity, the genetic analysis of\r\ncomplex traits as well as the development\r\nand implementation of optimized breeding strategies.<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<br><br>\r\n\r\nAfter intensive works in the individual\r\nareas of genome-based breeding research,\r\nall involved parties meet at regular intervals for exchanging their experiences.\r\nThus, about 30 participants got together in\r\nCuxhaven last December in order to present the status of the particular research\r\ntasks and to discuss the next steps.<br><br>\r\nThe area of poultry breeding was covered\r\nby scientists of the University of G\u00f6ttingen and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute\r\nin Mariensee. Among others they study\r\nthe hatchability of laying hybrids from\r\nLOHMANN TIERZUCHT and relate them to\r\ninternal egg quality traits. The main focus\r\nis always on the genetic predisposition for\r\na specific trait. The scientists aim at signalizing parallels between the recorded phenotypes and genotypes of these animals\r\nso that by means of advanced breeding\r\nmethods in the future breeding progress\r\ncan be achieved more quickly.<br><br>\r\nIn another sub-project, a new planning\r\nprogramme is developed, which will provide the breeder, for example, with information on optimizing strategies of his\r\nbreeding population. This programme\r\ntakes into account not only breeding variables but also economic parameters.<br><br>\r\nThe team around Dr Steffen Weigend of\r\nthe Friedrich Loeffler Institute in Mariensee examines trait complexes of poultry\r\nbreeds.
