About 35\r\nyears ago, modern hybrid birds were introduced. Big developments in the poultry\r\nsector have been observed in the last one\r\nand half decades.<br><br>\r\nWith the inception of commercial farming,\r\nthe poultry business has emerged as one of\r\nthe major sources of income and has rapidly generated growing enterprises. However,\r\nit is still a long way from present conditions\r\nto rear poultry in a scientific and professional manner to generate profitability where\r\nthreats by different kinds of diseases and\r\ncontinuously increasing feed costs not only\r\njust narrow the profit margin, but also cause\r\nlosses.<br><br>\r\nAccording to industry sources in Nepal, the\r\nper capita consumption is only 46 eggs per\r\nyear which is far below the average of 120\r\neggs for Asia. Therefore, there is a scope of\r\nincrease of the market size by three folds\r\nwhich is only possible with modern methods of farming.<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\nModern methods of farming can not only\r\nimprove the present growth pattern of the\r\npoultry industry, but also keep the prices of\r\nproduction under control and hence, contribute to an increased demand of poultry\r\nproducts, due to the affordable prices and\r\nrising consumption of the population. With\r\nthe rising demand for poultry products\r\nand existing farmers expanding their operations, new investments are also on the\r\nrise. There are one billion Nepalese Rupees\r\n(NPR) in the pipeline for investments in the\r\ncoming year in different parts of the country.<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\nAs a natural rule, the increased poultry production is also facing a lot of challenges\r\nwith pathogen and disease load, high feed\r\ncost as well as unorganized markets. To\r\nconvert this challenge into opportunity,\r\none <strong>LOHMANN<\/strong> franchise hatchery, National Breeders Nepal (P) Ltd. is constructing\r\nnew sites with climate control, automatic\r\nfeeding, automatic egg collection sheds\r\nand fully all-in all-out facilities. This kind of\r\nfacility will be the first of its kind in the Nepalese poultry industry. National Breeders Nepal (P) Ltd. is focusing to get the best productivity from parent stock flocks and supply best quality chicks, which will cumulatively benefit competitiveness and the bottom line of its own operation as well as egg\r\nproducing farmers. This trend is expected to\r\nbe followed by other operators too. <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\nDr. Tilchand Bhattarai, President of Nepal\r\nPoultry Entrepreneur Forum and Managing Director of Pancharatna Feeds Pvt.\r\nLtd., said that the number of commercial\r\nlayers is also projected to go up by 24 % to\r\n5.7 Mn from the present 4.6 Mn. However,\r\nthe production of eggs is expected to go\r\ndown to 1.11 pieces due to the shortage\r\nof layer chicks, which is being attributed\r\nto drops in the parent stock chick population by 5.7 % to 86.000, in view of the\r\nrecent price hike in raw materials, low imports and diseases, all of which, have also\r\nthreatened the poultry industry of Nepal.\r\nDespite all those facts as well as regular\r\npower cuts and adverse climatic conditions,\r\nthe country\u2019s poultry sector has registered an\r\nimpressive growth of 24 % and records\r\na turnover of NPR 41 billion rupees in the\r\nfiscal year 2010\/2011.<br><br>\r\n\r\nI would like to take the opportunity to\r\nthank Mr. Tanka Dhakal, (Managing Director\r\nBrown Bird Hatchery Pvt.
