This was at the time when part of its land was expropriated and the owner was forced to look for new productive\r\nactivities with lesser land than before: layers.\r\n After 35 years, La Calera now produces around 4 million\r\neggs per day and is the market leader in egg production in\r\nPer\u00fa. The latter has 98% of the total market shares in the supermarkets of the capital, Lima, and also has its big trucks delivering to every corner of the country. <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>The present<\/strong><br><br>\r\nWith more than 4.5 million layers in production and around\r\n1 million pullets in rearing, La Calera has based its growth on\r\nproviding consumers with fresh eggs of the highest quality\r\nthereby generating more than 2,000 direct jobs, including at\r\nOvosur, the processing plant that delivers egg products to the\r\nlocal food industry and also for export.\r\nThe egg production is concentrated in the main farm in\r\nChincha in which LB Lite breeders are also housed and their\r\neggs hatched. The control of the vertical integration of the\r\nbusiness is the key to success. La Calera manages the whole\r\nproduction and distribution chains of the eggs. On top of that,\r\nthe main activity of the company complements and contributes to other parts of the business by processing the chicken manure to produce biogas for the layer business and fertilizer for\r\nan extremely efficient fruit production <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>The mision<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\u201cTo contribute to the development of society by offering nutritive and healthy\r\nproducts in an agile and efficient way, through a culture of social\r\nand environmental responsibility\u201d.\r\nLa Calera provides social services for all\r\nof its employees.
