This year\u2019s re\r\n&#8211;\r\ncipient of the prestigious Howie and\r\nSurgenor Cup for outstanding\r\ncontribution to the\r\nScottish Poultry industry, Mr. David\r\nScott, has\r\nhad a major impact in the development of the layer sector in\r\nScot\r\n&#8211;\r\nland and the UK and Ireland. Throughout his long and illustrious\r\ncareer, he has demonstrated excellence and perfection.\r\nWithout\r\nhis drive, energy and enthusiasm he could never have achieved\r\nhis success and recognition in the poultry industry. By having such\r\nan extensive knowledge of many aspects of the poultry sector, he\r\nhas used his skills to develop a nationally respected and market\r\nleading brand. \r\n<br><br>\r\n<strong>Personal Background<\/strong> <br><br>\r\nBorn and raised in\r\nEdinburgh, he was educated at George Heriots\r\nSchool. His first job was at Auchincruive agricultural college , com\r\n&#8211;\r\npleting a detailed research project about broilers. It involved him\r\nassessing the amount of meat on the bird\u2019s carcass, stripping flesh\r\noff and weighing it \u2013 not for the faint of heart. <br><br>\r\n\r\nIn 1986 Ross Poultry based in Inverurie approached Auchincru\r\n&#8211;\r\nive looking for a farm manager and highly recommended him for\r\nthe position which he was offered and accepted. During his time\r\nwith Ross Poultry, Robin Johnson and Norrie\r\nSemple played a key\r\nrole in his development and his understanding of poultry and the\r\npoultry business. For the next few years he continued to work hard\r\nfor Ross Poultry and by 1992 he had been promoted to area farms\r\nmanager. He then went on to co-ordinate a project building a pa\r\n&#8211;\r\ncking station in Inverurie. At this time Lohmann Tierzucht were on\r\nthe lookout for a franchise company to sell their Lohmann Brown\r\nbird and so Ross Poultry took this on. They\r\nthen required someone to manage the laying\r\nfarms and hatchery based in\r\nWorcestershire.<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\nHe was given the opportunity to relocate\r\nto\r\nWorcester to manage the laying farms and the\r\nhatchery at Martin Hussingtree. Robin Johnson who\r\nwas MD of Ross Poultry at this time suggested he take\r\nhis family down to\r\nWorcestershire for a couple of weekends\r\nto see if the family really wanted to locate. After a great deal\r\nof soul searching, they decided to make the move which was\r\na long way from home.\r\nSo in October 1992 David\r\nScott and his\r\nfamily relocated south of the border. In 2004, Hills Down Holdings\r\nwho owned Ross Poultry moved their layers division to another\r\ncompany within their holdings. The managing directors of Ross\r\nPoultry at the time,\r\nSteve Donson and John\r\nSabberton bought\r\nout and formed a new company called Poultry First. David put all\r\nhis savings he had into the business and Lohmann GB was created\r\nin 2001.<br><br>\r\nIn 2008,\r\nSteve and John retired from Lohmann GB and David\r\nbecame managing director forming a partnership with the\r\nWesjo\r\n&#8211;\r\nhann group, owners of Lohmann Tierzucht. In the same year, David\r\ncompleted a charity bike ride across the Bealach Moore and also\r\ndeveloped a keen interest in sailing around the\r\nScottish islands.<br><br>\r\n\r\nIn October 2012 Lohmann GB sold their landmark 100 millionth\r\nday old chick \u2013 a tremendous achievement to be very proud of.
