Dr. Schmutz was promoted\r\nas the new person responsible for this position and will\r\ncontinue to run the successful breeding programs of LTZ and\r\nlead the genetics team.<\/blockquote>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\n<strong>Guarantee for Continued Success<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\n<strong>For more than 20 years, Prof. Preisinger was covering this position.<\/strong>\r\nNow he changed from LOHMANN to the Holding level at the EW\r\nGroup and assumed his new job as Chief Technical Officer (CTO)\r\nfor layer breeding. Dr. Schmutz with his long time experience in\r\nthe company will be the best choice to guarantee the seamless\r\ntransition of the dedicated and passionate work for genetic improvement\r\nof the birds according to market needs. <br>This is the\r\nfoundation of the success stories of our company and with Dr.\r\nSchmutz the continuity of this success is ensured.<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lohmann-breeders.com\/media\/2020\/07\/New-responsibilities-in-the-Genetics-Department-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" class=\"imgcenter\" \/>\r\n<br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Career and Experience<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\nDr. Schmutz completed his University degree in animal breeding\r\nin 1991 and PhD study in 1995 at the University in Kiel, Germany,\r\nwith the evaluation of data from the breeding of swine herdbooks.<br>\r\nAfter leaving the University environment, Dr. Schmutz\r\nworked with the optimization of the routine dairy breeding value\r\nevaluation for four years at the German Center for Holstein Breeding\r\nEvaluation. <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote>In 1999, at the time when Prof. Dietmar Flock\r\nretired and Prof. Preisinger became chief geneticist, Dr. Schmutz\r\nstarted working for LOHMANN TIERZUCHT.<\/blockquote>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\nSince then, he has always\r\nbeen working in the genetics team and has been actively\r\ninvolved in decisions related to breeding strategies. Changes in\r\nthe management of LTZ particularly in 2006, made it necessary\r\nfor Prof. Preisinger to pay more attention to executive decisions.\r\nAlready during this time, the main responsibility for the daily breeding\r\nwork at LTZ was handed over to Dr. Schmutz. Together with\r\nthe other members of the genetics team, the successful breeding\r\nprograms of LTZ were conducted.<br><br>\r\n\r\n<strong>Our Mission:\r\nBalanced breeding targets and successful birds<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\nThe focus will be put on the further improvement of the performance\r\nprofile of our successful birds. Creating genetic progress\r\non the pure line level and implementing this progress to\r\nthe commercial level as soon as possible, have always been the\r\nstrong parts of our breeding set-up and for sure, it will continue\r\nin this way. <br><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote>Our balanced breeding targets is the most important\r\nmission as our breeding company will continue to meet the growing\r\nworldwide demand for high performing layers to produce\r\ntable eggs of top quality. <\/blockquote>\r\n<br><br>\r\n\r\nOnly in a situation where the commercial\r\negg producers can achieve excellent performance and efficiency,\r\ncan the breeding company have a sustainable future. We\r\nwill continue to work very hard to maintain our leading position\r\nin this global market.<br><br>\r\n\r\n<strong>Investments of money and resources<\/strong><br><br>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"milista\">In order to meet the future needs of the markets, LTZ has invested\r\na lot of money and resources in the breeding programs in the past\r\nyears. These investments include the following:\r\n<li>New pure line farm in Canada<\/li>\r\n<li>New pure line farm in Spain<\/li>\r\n<li>Reconstruction of the German breeding farms to enriched single\r\ncages<\/li>\r\n<li>Relocation of the progeny field test from mainly Germany into\r\nRussia, Spain and Colombia, and the continuation of field testing\r\nin Japan<\/li>\r\n<li>Development and Application of the Genomic Selection technique<\/li><\/ul><br><br>\r\n\r\nInvestments will continue to ensure the sustainability of the\r\nbalanced breeding program in the future, also under the new\r\npersonnel constellation.
