DISTRIBUTING LOHMANN LSL-LITE PRODUCTS<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nLOHMANN products have been synonymous with high standards in breeding and selection procedures for more than 60 years and its presence in the Brazilian market has strengthened year after year.<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\nEgg market in Brazil<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nThe egg market in Brazil is highly competitive and the consumer profile has been changing at a fast pace over the last years.

\r\n\r\nNowadays, customers seek a large egg, between 55 and 59 g<\/strong>, as well as highly productive birds to meet the steady growth in egg consumption. This has risen from roughly 190 to the current figure of 230 eggs per capita in just a few years.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
This is a market where 75% of the eggs\r\nare white and 25% brown, however\r\nthere are some regions, such as the\r\nsouth of the country, where this\r\nshare is the other way around.<\/div>

\r\n\r\nSuch a large market is\r\ncompeted for by nine\r\ndifferent white breeds\r\nand eight brown breeds.\r\nWithin this context,\r\nLOHMANN do Brasil has\r\nbeen present since 2011 as\r\na subsidiary of LOHMANN\r\nTIERZUCHT and is already\r\nleader in the country.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
For LOHMANN, laying 500 eggs is not enough, since our focus\r\nis on producing saleable eggs at a low cost with highest return\r\non investment in our birds.
LOHMANN products are present in\r\nall the states of Brazil from the far south (cold environment) to\r\nthe extreme north (high temperature and high humidity).<\/div>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
LOHMANN\r\nproducts are\r\npresent in all\r\nthe states of\r\nBrazil from the\r\nfar south (cold\r\nenvironment)\r\nto the extreme\r\nnorth (high\r\ntemperature and\r\nhigh humidity).<\/blockquote>\r\n

In order to withstand being transported on the long belts that lead to on-farm egg processing areas, the eggs must have an outstanding shell quality that gives the least damage possible.<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\nEgg quality<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nIt is a known fact that customers in Brazil are investing in better welfare, climate control, biosecurity and energy efficiency etc. Following the growth of egg consumption, farms are being transformed into true protein production industries.

\r\n\r\nLarger operations bring all the previously mentioned advantages but also some significant challenges, the long egg transport system being one of the most profit impacting ones.

\r\n\r\nIn order to withstand being transported on the long belts that lead to on-farm egg processing areas, the eggs must have an outstanding shell quality that gives the least damage possible.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nStarting in 2016, the Sales and Service team of LOHMANN do Brasil has added another service category by offering egg quality analysis to their customers, using specific gravity.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nThis method consists of soaking eggs in different concentrations of a sodium chloride solution in order to find which solution matches the egg and therefore determines the eggshell quality. Lohmann do Brasil uses specific gravity levels from 1.070g\/l to 1.100g\/l with increments of 10g\/l from one solution to another.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\n
The process consists of soaking\r\nthe eggs from the smaller\r\nconcentration to the highest.\r\nWhen the egg floats, it is\r\nconsidered to belong to the\r\nconcentration it floated in. It is\r\nwell known in the industry that\r\na higher specific density means\r\na better eggshell.<\/div>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe graph shows the percentage of eggs in\r\nthe 1.100g\/l category in different ages, from\r\ndifferent breeds. The figures clearly show\r\nthat Lohmann LSL flocks have a higher\r\npercentage and better quality.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nThese results have been confirmed in several\r\nreplicates among many customers and in\r\nregions throughout the country over the past\r\nfour years.

\r\n\r\nHowever, as there are some customers who\r\nquestion the efficiency of this methodology,\r\nthe Sales and Service team of LOHMANN do\r\nBrasil once again searched for a new way\r\nto demonstrate the better eggshell quality\r\nproduced by Lohmann birds.

\r\n\r\nThe solution had be more technologically\r\nadvanced, however most eggshell tester\r\nmachines are bulky and not portable,\r\nmaking it almost impossible to move them\r\naround the country.<\/strong> The few portable versions\r\nhad calibration problems after experiencing\r\nso many shocks on route from farm to farm.

\r\n\r\nWe suggested to the Genetic department\r\nat LOHMANN TIERZUCHT that we could\r\npossibly work with the same machine they\r\nused for their evaluations in Germany.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nIn January 2020, we imported the small and precise Egg Shell Tester\r\nand started a new way of measurement. After just a few measurements\r\nit was possible to conclude the already known trait advantage of\r\nLohmann breeds shown by the traditional specific gravity test.

\r\n\r\nTesting takes place in the presence of the customer. The customer\r\nalso supplies the eggs so that the team from LOHMANN do Brasil\r\ncannot recognise which breed produced the eggs before testing\r\nall the samples.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSome of the results are presented below:

\r\n\r\nGraph 3 shows the shell strength measured\r\nin N using the Fast Eggshell Tester tested at\r\nthe same customer shown in Graphs 1 and 2.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\nThe tester confirms the superiority of the\r\nshell quality of the LOHMANN LSL-LITE breed\r\n(identified by the brown colour).

\r\n\r\nThis same excellent quality was verified by a\r\nspecific gravity test.

\r\n\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\nThe graph shows the eggshell strength\r\non another farm with houses that contain\r\n70,000 birds.<\/strong> The farm is in the mid-west of the\r\ncountry with a lot of climate challenges.

\r\n\r\nHere we can see that LOHMANN LSL-LITE\r\nbirds produce the best shell strength\r\ncompared with other breeds of similar ages.<\/strong>

\r\n\r\n\r\nThe next graph shows the eggshell\r\nstrength in the south east of the country<\/strong>\r\nwhere chicken houses hold 50,000 birds\r\neach, confirming once again that even older\r\nLOHMANN LSL-LITE flocks maintain a\r\nbetter eggshell quality compared with the\r\ncompetitors.<\/strong>

    Conclusion<\/strong>

  • Although we have only worked with the eggshell tester for just a few months, the volume of eggs already tested and the consistency of our findings confirm the already known high quality that has been widely studied in the country in the past years.<\/li>\r\n
  • We can safely state that LOHMANN LSL-LITE produces the most resilient eggs in the country, which support our customers in achieving a maximum return on their investment in our products.<\/li>\r\n
  • We will shortly publish the results of an identical study on LOHMANN BROWN-LITE, which is proving to show the same trend as LSL.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n
