🥚 Teggnical Insights: Preventing Prolapse in Laying Hens (Part 2)

Infolounge logo

In last week’s post, we looked at what prolapse is and the key factors that can lead to this issue in laying hens. 🐔

Today, we’ll focus on how to prevent prolapse and protect both flock welfare and egg production.

There is no effective treatment for prolapse — which makes prevention essential.

💡 Prevention tips:

• Photo-stimulate only when birds reach the correct age and body weight (typically around 17 weeks).

• Provide balanced feed rations formulated specifically for pullets and layers.

• Watch closely for early signs of vent pecking and act quickly.

• Manage nest boxes to prevent hens from staying inside longer than necessary.

Good management, proper lighting, and balanced nutrition are key to minimizing risk and maintaining a healthy, productive flock.
