🛡️🥚 Teggnical Insights Biosecurity – The Foundation of Healthy Flocks

Biosecurity is not just a protocol — it’s the cornerstone of successful poultry production.

At breeder level, the responsibility goes beyond maintaining flock health. Many diseases can be transmitted vertically from parent stock to progeny. This makes strict biosecurity at parent stock level essential to ensure healthy chicks and high-quality hatching eggs.

A strong biosecurity program helps to:

✔️ Prevent the introduction of diseases

✔️ Limit the spread within and between farms

✔️ Protect flock performance (productivity & hatchability)

✔️ Reduce treatment costs and improve profitability

✔️ Safeguard hatcheries and the next generation

🔑 Three key components of effective biosecurity:

All-in / All-out: Single-age flocks and downtime between cycles reduce disease pressure significantly

Traffic control: Strict management of visitors, staff, and vehicles entering and moving within the farm

Sanitation: Consistent cleaning and disinfection of facilities, equipment, and personnel

📌 Important:

Biosecurity is not a temporary measure — it must be applied consistently at all times, not only during disease outbreaks.

A well-structured, written biosecurity plan should address both internal risks and external threats. Close collaboration with your veterinarian and technical experts is key.
